Raja Group, the leading European industrial packaging distributor has acquired UK-based company Morplan. Founded in 1845, Morplan is the number one supplier to the UK’s retail and fashion industry.
In 2014, Morplan generated sales of 25 million Euros and employs circa 120 employees. Morplan deploys a multi-channel strategy offering its 5000 products through a 500-page catalogue and three shops in London, Glasgow and Bristol as well as an online presence and dedicated key account sales team.
This transaction has allowed Raja Group to double its level of activity on the UK market and to gain access to new product expertise and customers. Commercial and operational synergies will be developed between the existing UK subsidiary Rajapack and Morplan with the aim of increasing their current market shares.
Rétif, a French company and Europe’s leading supplier of retail equipment, acquired Morplan in 1999 when developing its Northern European presence. After the takeover of the entire share capital of Rétif by the Private Equity companies Verdoso, Pragma-Capital, LGT and Idinvest, the decision was made to sell Morplan and focus the future development of the group on Southeast Europe, especially in Spain and Italy; countries with a large number of independent retailers. This new acquisition will accelerate the implementation of this new strategy.
Jean Noel Mermet, Managing Director of Frenger International, originated this opportunity between three existing and past clients. Morplan was a client of Frenger International during the 90s, when it was looking to expand to France via external growth. Frenger International also advised Rétif in 1999 when the French group decided to acquire Morplan from Ferguson PLC.
Frenger also advised Raja in 1998 when it acquired Aid-Pack Limited in Kent and was also involved in the acquisition of Norwegian company Postemballasje in 2010.
This is the 3rd transaction that Frenger has initiated and managed for Raja Group, and the 9th acquisition that Frenger has managed in the European B2B distance selling sector.
